Monday we had to go to clinic for the last LP of our current phase. This of course meant Lexi couldn't eat or drink beforehand. Unlike previous weeks, Lexi woke up early. And the first words I heard were "I want water" followed shortly by, "Mommy, I'm hungry." I knew then I was in for a great day. After several meltdowns at home about not being able to eat, we get to clinic. Theres another meltdown getting out of the van, and one in the waiting room. Finally make it back and she does great for vitals, but completely loses it for tubie. We had to let her lay on the floor for a few minutes at one point. They get tubie in, it flushes, but they can't pull blood. We decide to let her go play for a bit. She rides two laps around the office on a little motorcycle(she really needs to learn to steer), and plays trains with the other little boy there. They attempt to draw blood, she hands them the end of tubie with no issues. We assume all of this attitude is because she will probably need blood. Last week I was told she would probably need blood this week, and might be neutropenic (low ANC). Labs come back, no change from last week. So she was just acting three.
At this point, I'm told that most kids take a week or two off between consolidation part I and part II, while they wait for their numbers to come back up. Lexi may get to roll right into the next part, unless she is just faking us out. But we are preparing to go in Monday for the start of a very long week, 5 days in a row, each day about 6+ hours. Should be, uh, fun. Be it this week or later, it will be a fun week.
Tuesday, Shawn got to take Lexi to PT, while Carol Ann watched Annie. I got to work my 8 hour volunteer shift at the kids clothsline consignment sale. Always a long but fun day. I even managed to get Shawn to do our drop off while I worked, so I didn't have to do it afterwards. He also got some gardening done while Carol Ann watched the girls.
Wednesday was OT, not much else going on that day.
Thursday started off wrong and got worse. I wanted to get up early to start a beef stew in the crockpot, but Lexi got up first and came to visit me. Finally get started on the food, realize we don't have the right amount of beef. Quickly get both kids dressed and head to the store, get home and get things started. All this while Lexi is acting 3, just like Monday. Sara and Kimmy are suppose to come over, but are running late due to traffic. Apparently my luck is spilling onto them too. Ha! They finally get here, and Sara and I notice that not only does Lexi seem tired, she's also shivering a bit, but no temp. After some deliberation, I call clinic. No fever, but bring her in anyway.
Get to clinic, still no temp, take vitals, and minimal fighting for tubie. (Yeah!!) Finish the exam with the doctor, all looks good, just waiting for bloodwork to come back. They check her temp again, 100.7. What ever she got we caught it just as it was starting. Her red count is finally dropping, but not low enough yet for blood. Her other counts indicate that she is starting to fight something. They give her some antibiotics, and we should be good to go. She is still not neutropenic, numbers are actually up! Thankfully, Carol Ann and Micheal are already on their way to the house, and can relieve Sara from watching Annie. And Shawn joined us at clinic, and I made it out in time for the pre-sale.
Friday, all continues to be well. No more fever for Lexi. She was having fun playing with the new toys she found in the living room this morning. And she is all clear to go to the clinic egg hunt tomorrow morning. And we are still looking at Monday starting our very long week.
