Been a long time since I had a chance to sit and type. Sitting in the hospital with Lexi when she is feeling well is very different then when she wasn’t feeling good. As soon as she sees the computer, she wants to come help me type. And as we’ve hit the end of the school year, I’ve also had a lot of tutoring jobs to help students prepare for their finals. So here’s a recap of the last three weeks.
We survived our first round of inpatient chemo fairly well. The 24 hour med started at 4pm on Monday. Just before they got her meds started, Lexi got a visit from KJ and Trenda Monday afternoon. Shawn comes in every day after work to give me a few hours break. On Tuesday she got a visit from Carol Ann. While I was home, there were issues with Lexi’s tubie, and Carol Ann had the joy of dealing with Lexi while they had to re-access her. On Wednesday, Sara and Kimmy came in to visit for a bit. During the time in the hospital, Lexi did pretty good. She had her moments of being Little Miss Boing Boing. At one point, the tv remote cord was a seatbelt, and she had to buckle in all her toys. At another point the back of her bed made a nice slide. She got discharged Thursday afternoon.
Friday evening we went to Momo and Pappy’s for Memorial Day weekend. Most of Saturday morning we could tell Lexi was a bit off. She had had a cold most of the week in the hospital. Shawn and I got away for a few hours. We went to lunch and did a bit of shopping. After we came back we decided it was time to take Lexi home, as she still wasn’t feeling well. Thankfully, Momo and Pappy offered to keep Annie for the rest of the weekend. After we got home, we decided that even though she didn’t have a fever, it was time to call the on call doc. They said to go to the ER for bloodwork, just to be sure. By the time we got there, she had a fever. She got some antibiotics, but as she wasn’t neutapenic, we got to go home around midnight. Sunday morning Lexi slept in while we got to get some work done around the house. Then we had Nan’al come sit with Lexi while went out. We went to Dorney for dinner and rides. Monday, since she was feeling better, we took Lexi to Dorney early in the day to check out the water park. Then Shawn and Lexi went to pick up Annie while I got a few hours to myself before I had to go tutor. Tuesday, Shawn lucked into catching a stomach bug. Wednesday Annie had an eye exam for a blocked tear duct in the morning, and Lexi had PT/OT in the afternoon. Thursday Annie had speech therapy. Friday, Lexi went to clinic for bloodwork to make sure she was good for her next round of in hospital chemo. All went well, though we spent much more time in clinic then necessary, as Lexi wanted to stay and play. But it meant I got to get a full numbers report on her bloodwork. Saturday we went to the family pig roast. The girls got to spend the afternoon playing with cousins and lots of good food. On Sunday, Carol Ann and Pop-Pop came up and sat with the girls while we went shopping and worked on cleaning the house.
Monday, Lexi was admitted for her second round of in hospital chemo. Lexi was slightly less boing boing this time, but still had her wild moments. At one point she managed to disconnect the call bell from the wall. She also enjoyed the visits from the pet therapy dogs this week as well. I also seemed to be slightly less stressed this week, even though I had less down time. Thankfully, this week we were able to get Lexi discharged “early.” This means rather than Thursday afternoon, we got out Wednesday night around 10:30pm.
She is scheduled for her next in patient round to start on 6/15, assuming good blood counts Monday morning. Hopefully I can find time to update more next time.
