Day 1 - Saturday - Travel Day
We woke up good and early to begin our trip. After we crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Lexi loved seeing the boats and that we went under water), we made a stop at the Virginia Zoo. While it is a very nice zoo, the kids were far less interested in the animals and much more interested in the water! Can't say I blame them, it was warm out.
Annie really enjoyed running around and hugging each of the fountains. Lexi was much more subdued. She preferred to just get her hands wet.
With these navigators, its a miracle we made it. Shortly after this picture, Annie made sure the map was in multiple pieces.
With a long day in the car, Annie was looking to new places to stash her snacks.
After the zoo, the girls both quickly fell asleep. We used this as an opportunity to start our yearly tradition, ice cream every day. Today was milkshakes of chick-fil-a, cookies and cream.
Day 2 - Sunday
After nap time, we headed to the village beach club. First we checked out the beach and the ocean. Annie wasn't a fan of the sand so much, so we also checked out the baby pool in the beach club.
After dinner we went to Scoops Ice Cream.
Day 3 - Monday
Today we headed over to the beach club earlier in the day and spent all of the time at the pool, then we went home for nap time. When we got home I found a voicemail from our awesome pediatrician, Dr. Saltz. He was calling because he hadn't seen us in a while and wanted to check on how Lexi was doing. His message also reminded me that I hadn't updated the blog in a while. We should have realized that his comment about "not seeing us in a while" was a jinx.
Momo and Pappy went out to dinner on their own this night. So Shawn and I took the girls to Fat Boyz Ice Cream after dinner by our selves. This did NOT go well. Neither girl wanted to sit and eat their ice cream.
We also managed to pick up, quite possibly, the world most inappropriately named soda.
Day 4 - Tuesday
At 1am, the jinx kicked in, and Shawn had to take Annie to the ER for wheezing. They were back home by 4am with an inhaler. After the interupted sleep, we decided to have an easy morning around the house. In the afternoon, Pappy made crabs and shrimp. We tried to take the girls to the aquarium, but the place was packed, so we decided to go back again a different day. Lexi had a crab and a half worth of body meat and a few shrimp at dinner. She then decided she only likes crab meat if its in big chunks, not "little strings."
After dinner, Shawn and I went out to ice cream alone. This night we went to Old Town Creamery
Day 5 - Wednesday
We got up early this morning and took the girls to the aquarium. They also have dinosaurs at the aquarium. Annie enjoyed the aquarium, Lexi wanted to run off and do her own thing.
In the evening, Shawn and I went out to dinner, alone. After dinner we did some shopping, mini golf(Shawn won for a change!), and of course, ice cream. This time at Kill Devil's Frozen Custard. No ice cream pictures from this night, just the view at dinner and the view of dinner.
Day 6 - Thursday
We went to the Club with out my parents this day. Shawn took Lexi to the beach for a while to play in the sand while I spent time with Annie at the baby pool. Eventually Shawn and Lexi joined us at the baby pool.
This lasted all of 3 seconds.
"The cow says: hey, its really windy up here"
Day 7 - Friday
We went to the beach club for one last time with Momo and Pappy. We spent time at the baby pool first. Then Lexi wanted to go back to the sand, so I took her with Pappy. Pappy and I took turns taking dips in the ocean while playing in the sand with Lexi. Then we went back and played in the big pool.
After dinner and most of the packing was done, Shawn and I went out to ice cream alone again. While we normally have tried to go to a different place every night, we decided to go to Scoops for a third time (they make their own ice cream), and get sundaes instead of just cones.
"I sorry I bite your back, Annie"
Day 8 - Saturday - Going Home
Shawn and I woke up early to watch the sun rise before we woke the kids and hit the road. The trip home was mostly uneventful, other than Lexi pooping in the car potty while we were parked on the side of the road. We stopped to visit Carol Ann and Pop-Pop and grab some dinner before heading all the way home. After we got home, got mostly unpacked, and put the girls to bed, Shawn and I had one last ice cream: store bought drumsticks.
Day 9 - Home
In an attempt to continue the fun we took the girls to Dorney Park after nap-time. We spent about 2 hours in the water park, then got dinner. Shawn took Annie on the Chance Carousel, while I waited in line with Lexi for the Ferris Wheel. Just as we were about to get on, the ride closed for lightening. While she was disappointed, Lexi handled it fairly well for the three year old. By the time we got home, it was pouring, so we all got soaked getting into the house. But it all it was a good end to a good vacation.
And the crazy began again on Monday when Lexi began her third round of in-patient chemo.
Just a few more cutie photos.
