I am thankful that her pediatrician knew enough to send us for blood work. I'm also glad he knew enough not to clue me in on his thoughts. That gave me a few extra hours of peace before things started spinning. That he cares not only about Lexi and Annie, but our whole family. That he came to visit us in the hospital that first weekend.
I am thankful for every single doctor, nurse, tech, and other employees we encountered at the hospital. Everyone was wonderful to us and to Lexi. Everyone was willing to sit and talk to us about anything. Be it Lexi, Annie, life, work, it didn't matter. A friendly ear was and always will be appreciated.
I am thankful for all of the wonderful resources here in the Lehigh Valley. For not having to drive to Philly or Hershey for Lexi's treatment. For the hospital being close enough that Shawn and I could rotate daily who was with Annie and who was with Lexi.
I am thankful for all the gifts Lexi has received. Her blanket from Derek's Hugs has quickly become her favorite blanket to use while sitting on the couch. Both Lexi and Annie receive new pajamas from Conner's Comfy PJs. There were a few other gift bags from other organizations that I can't remember, as well as gifts from individual friends and family as well.
I am thankful for the entire oncology team. They give us manageable bits of information to process at a time. That they have a social worker who is helping us navigate all the paperwork and informing us of what services are available to us. That they are very friendly to Lexi, and try to work with her on her terms, but know when we just have to push. That we can sit in clinic as long as we need to when Lexi falls asleep while waiting for lab results.
I am thankful that our daycare has been so flexible in working with us for Annie. They have shown so much concern for Lexi. With life at home being slightly crazy, it is a true comfort knowing that Annie has the stability of going to daycare with a routine with people she knows and trusts.
I am thankful for wonderful neighbors who help us with outside stuff. When I'm preparing to haul one or both girls out the car and find the walk already shovel, it makes things so much easier. Also, helping me push the van when it gets stuck on the ice. Go van go!
I am thankful for everyone who has or has signed up to bring us food. I can't imagine what our eating habits would be like if it weren't for this. Other than not healthy. Have good food in the house goes a long way toward keeping Shawn and I healthy so we can continue to take care of the family. I'm not sure how we are going to readjust to having to cook for ourselves eventually.
I am thankful for our family and friends who have sat with us, talked with us, and watched the girls for us. For giving us time together to process our thoughts. For giving us time to do things around the house. For helping us do things around the house. For giving us time to step back and be us.
I am thankful for all of the love, prayers and support coming from every directions. Family, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and other well wishers. I don't know where we would be with out everyone.
I am thankful that I was easily able to scale back my working hours. That Shawn has been able to be flexible on his in office hours. That we are able to there for both of our girls when needed.
I am thankful that I have been able to be a stay at home, and gotten to spend so much time with my girls. That we didn't have to alter our schedule or income too much to be able to have me stay home with Lexi through this.
I am thankful for every person that has ever participated in clinical research trials. For giving Lexi, and all others affected the best chance possible of beating this.
I am thankful for every bit of spunk Lexi has in her. Even when she gets mad at me, pushes me away and tells me to stop talking. I can't help but smile.
I am thankful that things are not worse.
Above all, I am thankful for every second of every day that I get to spend with my girls, my husband, my family and my friends.
