Hair

We have finally reached the point where Lexi's hair is starting to fall out.  When I has asked them when we could expect that, they said about a month in.  And here we are.  If you weren't aware of how much and how thick her hair normally is, you wouldn't notice anything to look at her at this point.  I found it every odd when doing her hair over the weekend to have such think ponytails.  I normally have trouble braiding a ponytail for her because there is just so much hair there, but that isn't a problem right now.  Her bed is covered in hair, as was her sweater today (and mine, from holding her).  She keeps asking me to help get all the stray hairs off her hands.

So over the weekend we finally gave in to the inevitable and made her an appointment for a hair cut.  We are going to the place she normally gets her hair cut.  Not sure yet if we are going for a very short cut or just buzz it all off.  We will see where she is at on Thursday.

The nurses have said most of the younger kids don't tend to be too self-conscious about losing their hair. I'm hoping it doesn't bother Lexi too much.  I went out tonight and bought some cute fabrics to make her hats to wear.  Plus I still have a lot of headbands from when she was little, I'm sure some will still fit.

My biggest fear with getting her hair cut, is my reaction to it.  Its going to make this all seem that much more real.  Even though she spends her days sitting on the couch, not wanting to do anything, you can pretend its just the flu or something and she will get over it.  Losing her hair is going to be a chronic reminder of what is really going on.  It will also be a visual cue to people around us too.  So then we can be less self-conscious about wiping down shopping carts and restaurant booths with Clorox wipes when we are out and about.

Shawn has finally gotten around to processing some pictures.  Here we have Lexi ready to leave the hospital, and then this Saturday.   You can really see how much weight she has put on, I swear its all in those cheeks I want to squeeze!!

And these are some where you can tell how think her piggy tails have gotten.  Plus her over used pout face, and a smile when I started bouncing a bag of colors (aka M&Ms) over Daddy's head to get her to look at the camera.
I will post photos on Thursday after the hair cut.
