Day 28

Today Lexi went in for a bone marrow aspiration and spinal tap.  Between that and her last steroid pill tonight, she has completed the first phase of treatment (induction).

Lexi wasn't allowed anything to eat or drink after midnight last night.  That is because they knock her out for the procedures she had done today.  For once, the "spring forward" time change worked in our favor, as it was one less hour of cranky Lexi.  She woke up a couple times over night asking for snacks, as she normally does, but we manged to get her to either go back to sleep, or play with her Kindle.  I don't think she every actually went back to sleep after getting up around 5am.  By the time we got to clinic, Lexi was very very hungry, and tired, so she was very very cranky.  This did not help things.  She was not very cooperative when they accessed her port, but they got it done.  Then we had to wait for her labs to come back before we could head down to the surgical unit.  During this time the hunger and crankies got much worse.  By the time she got down to the surgical unit, she wanted nothing to do with anyone.  They had to give her versed to get her calm enough to even get her ID bracelet on.  After that point, she did well.  The procedures went well, and she woke up from the anesthesia fine.  She ate four chicken strips before we left recovery.  After a quick trip back to clinic to get her port de-accessed, the three of us went to Waffle House for lunch.  And there, Lexi put away as much food as either Shawn or I.

On Friday this week we go back to clinic to find out the results of today's tests and see how Lexi has responded to treatment thus far.  This is when we will learn what we will be doing for the second phase of treatment.  We will also find out if Lexi stays standard risk, or if she has to be bumped to high/very high risk.  We don't think that will happen, but we can't know for sure with out the test results.

Tomorrow Lexi will have another session with her physical therapist.  Her amount of movement varies day to day and hour to hour.  It really depends on how motivated, hungry and tired she is.  Over the weekend she managed to get herself out of bed, crawled out of her room, down the stairs, into the kitchen and onto her chair for breakfast, all by herself.  When Momo and Pappy were here for a visit, she wanted to get on the floor and play choo-choo trains with Pappy.  She was not happy about the presence of baby godzilla while they played.  But at other times she doesn't want to do anything other than sit on the couch, watch tv, eat, eat, eat, and be carried to the bathroom.  This is why we like to have visitors over for her when we can.  Familiar faces are a great motivator to get her moving and wanting to do something, anything.  I believe she is getting very tired of being with Mommy all the time, because if Daddy is around, Mommy is good for nothing and Daddy has to do everything.  When she tells me no and pushes me away, I pretend to cry and tell her she hurt my feelings.  Most of the time she says sorry and lets me help her then.  Or I just let Shawn help her and enjoy the break!
