Lexi has been doing well. Her walking is improving, depending on her mood and how tired she is. But she is spending more time walking then crawling at this point. She spends most of her day sitting on the couch watching TV, but does make many trips to the kitchen. The steroids are definitely kicking her appetite up. She is currently obsessed with all foods orange: mac and cheese, goldfish, cheese sticks, Cheetos (crunchy orange sticks), eggs, and chicken nuggets. I am looking forward to the end of the steroids and the end of the 4am wake ups for snack time! I want to sleep through the night.
Today Lexi had her first appointment for physical therapy. The therapist seemed impressed with how well Lexi is working already. She has worked with a lot of cancer patients, so I feel very confident she will work well with Lexi. Lexi warmed up and was very interested in doing some of the activities. She was even asking to jump on the trampoline. She got to try, but didn't do very well, since she has no strength in her legs.
After PT, we went to clinic for the next round of chemo. She got to play with the train tables and a lot of other toys in the office. One of the nurses who we saw in the hospital commented that Lexi was much more pleasant today then in the hospital. She was of courses very vocal in her dislike of them wanting to access her port. But once that was done, she did great. While we were waiting for the results of her blood test, one of the doctors came in to talk to us. When he mentioned us going home, Lexi told him that we had to wait for her numbers first. She knows whats going on. When we got her numbers, they are doing very well, both her red count and platelet counts are up since Friday, and the platelet count is actually back into the normal range. We didn't get the ANC on Friday, but it was very good today. We won't need to go back until next Tuesday unless Lexi is having problems. We also discussed her results from her second spinal tap last week. Her numbers keep her in the standard risk category. While it would have been nice to drop to the low risk category, I'd rather stay standard then go high.
Shawn and I continue to be very touched by all the support we have received thus far. Every meal we have received has been delicious. Every card brings a tear to my eye. I plan to hang them all in the living room so Lexi can see them every day, as soon as I have time. We also very much appreciate those who have come to visit Lexi and give us a chance to talk (to guest or each other) or get things done around the house. As much as we do love visitors, if you want to stop by, please make sure that you do let us know you are coming.
We are often asked how we are doing. We always say we are doing ok, or as well as we can be. But if I were to give an honest answer, we are probably doing better than we should be. I don't know why we have been able to handle things as well as we have, but we have. I just hope we are able to continue as well as we have been.
