Yesterday Lexi had a good day and lots of visitors. She got to see Kimmy, Sara and Nan'al in the morning, and then Aunt Carol Ann, Uncle Michael, and Pop-Pop in the evening. She took a few trips back and forth across the room to see the fish tank, grumbling most of the way.
Her attitude is definitely improving. She has gone from saying no to absolutely everything, to saying she feels better and occasionally saying yes to things. Of course, she still has her no spells.
"Can I check your temperature?"..."No!" (raises arm anyway)
"Do you want to go home?"..."No!"..."Do you want to stay here forever?"..."No!"
Even with that, she has still remained her polite self. Always remembers her please, thank you and sorry, even after yelling at the nurses.
We switched to giving her crushed meds mixed into yogurt, but I don't know that it goes any better then liquid. She's three, she does what she wants when she wants, and the more you want it, the harder she fights. Her red count has been holding steady, and she received more platelets overnight. Again, if you are the type of person who can donate blood, please do so! Keep the blood bank full!
This morning she had another spinal and more chemo. And then, the best news yet, we got to come home! Lexi was so excited to go home, she tried to get off the couch and go visit the fishes in her room by herself. Since she is still having trouble with her legs, this did not go well.
Lexi is very happy to be home. She got to sit on the couch this evening and pick from her full range of videos to watch. We will see how long it takes for her to miss watching cable. She picked up a liking to a few new shows in the past week. She also got to cuddle on the floor with Daddy and Annie. We are all very happy to be together and home. We also had some smiles, giggles and tickles. She spent a good bit of the night acting like her normal self, only stationary. And I'll take that any day.
We may have seen the beginning of the increase in appetite that comes with the steroids she is on. Hard to tell for sure in one evening. Its hard to tell if she was really hungry, or just couldn't make up her mind on what she wanted (yogurt, cheese, pb&j, crackers, carrots, etc). I guess we will have to wait and see who eats more tomorrow...Lexi or Annie?
Lexi will make her first visit to the clinic on Friday. And I am working to get her set up with physical therapy so we can get her back to walking. That one is important, otherwise Mommy and Daddy will need physical therapy from carrying her!
Overall, we are all just very glad to be home. Shawn and I continue to be touched by the amount of love and support we have received so far. We are truly thankful to have such wonderful people in our lives. I don't know where we would be without all of you. Thank you so much.
