Day 6

Lexi has spent a good bit of time out of bed today.  She got to sit on the couch and play with puzzles.  She also walked (with help, and a small bit of morphine) back and forth across the room.  As I said yesterday, the fish tank view in the room is a good motivator.  Especially since she isn't allowed out of her room.  We also finally brought Annie in for a visit.  They seemed to enjoy seeing each other.

Her appitite seems to be returning.  She ate at 4am, breakfast and lunch.  I think she's has more food today then most of the week combine! Didn't hurt that rather than ordering lunch through the hospital, Shawn brought in a happy meal.  Was a nice change from PB&J.

After lunch, I got to torture Lexi by making her take a shower.  She's been in the hospital over a week, and had a high fever for a while before that, so I can't even remember the last time I bathed the poor kid!  I then combed her hair and give her piggy tails.  There is a chance that treatment may cause her hair to fall out, so I may as well make it cute while I can!  After all that, she was exhausted, and took  a good nap.  Didn't even notice the IV pump beeping.

The doctors continue to monitor her blood levels carefully.  She will likely need more blood tomorrow.  But we will wait and see.  Now that she has some appitite back, we are gonna try mixing her meds into her food tonight.  So long as she can take her meds well and keeps walking, she may get to go home Tuesday after her chemo and spinal.  Fingers crossed!

After shift change, when the new nurse and tech wrote their names on the board in her room, she insisted I write her name on the board too.  Of course, she told me how to spell it.  I would be lost without this board!  With so many different doctors, nurses and techs, and then they all have to wear face masks in the room, I still have a hard time keeping track of peoples names.  I've told them they need to write their names on their face masks.
