Lexi was diagnosed with ALL, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This is the most common type of childhood cancer. For her age group, her chances are as good as we can hope for. If it had to be something, this is the one to have.
Treatment is in 3 main phases: induction, consolidation, and maintenance.
Lexi is currently in induction, which will last the first month. We have been told the first month is the worst. Today is day 4. She will remain in the hospital at least through day 8. After that point, they will work on getting her home. At that point we will have regular visit to the clinic for further treatment.
The team we are working with is very good about giving us information in manageable bits. We have not discussed much beyond induction, because we are not there yet. We have been told, for now, make plans a day or two at a time. And really, that's all we can handle. We have also been told to avoid Dr. Google. They will give us all the information we need.
